The British Columbia Geological Survey Branch has over 36,800 approved mineral exploration assessment reports filed by the exploration and mining industry since 1947. About 300-500 new reports are added annually. These reports provide information on geological, geophysical, geochemical, drilling and other exploration-related activities throughout B.C. The reports represent exploration expenditures of 2.8 billion dollars and the information is used for planning mineral exploration investment, research studies, land-use planning and resource management. The BC Geological Survey (BCGS) maintains a computer-based Assessment Report Indexing System (ARIS) which provides ARIS data for interactive viewing along with other BCGS databases at the MapPlace. ARIS is a relational database that is both an index and an administrative tracking system for these reports, which are confidential for a year. To download the ARIS data free of charge see ARIS Data Download. The ARIS database can be searched on any combination of fields. All reports are available for viewing on this website as .PDF files. As of August 2016 over 450 assessment reports which have digital data have been compiled and are now available for download as .ZIP files.

Additional Information

Purpose

The database is used to display distribution of exploration and development activity, and for research and mineral potential projects. It is also an administrative and indexing system to the mineral assessment report library (36,800 reports dating back to 1947).

Data Quality

The ARIS data in the LRDW has not been updated since 2005. The most current data can be discovered at the BC Geological Survey website, which includes the ARIS Search application, and on MapPlace and MapPlace 2. These are updated monthly. Regular updated flat csv tables are also provided with this catalogue entry.
