Air Quality Monitoring: Verified Hourly Data and Station Data

Published by the Ministry of Environment - Knowledge Management
Licensed under Open Government License - British Columbia

Verified hourly air pollutant monitoring data prepared and published annually by the Ministry of Environment. These data sets contain quality-assured hourly readings from air quality monitoring stations across B.C., up to the end of 2015.

Data files are available for:
  • Carbon monoxide (CO) in parts per million (ppm)
  • Nitric oxide (NO) in parts per billion (ppb)
  • Nitrogen dioxide (NO2) in ppb
  • Sulfur dioxide (SO2) in ppb
  • Ground-level ozone (O3) in ppb
  • Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) in ppb
  • PM2.5 (particulate matter with diameter of 2.5 micrometres or less) in micrograms per cubic metre (ug/m3)
  • PM10 (particulate matter with diameter of 10 micrometres or less) in ug/m3

Data files are provided as compressed (.zip) files, as uncompressed they are quite large (200-500 MB). However, sample files are provided for each pollutant that contain the first 200 rows of data, so you can explore the data structure before you download the full files.

Monitoring station data

Also included is a file (csv) of past and current air and climate monitoring stations in British Columbia. The file contains attribute data including station id, station name, station location, and latitude-longitude coordinates.

Note: Past and current hourly air pollutant data is also available by station or region through on-line tools at the BC Air Data Archive Website.
