Spatial data of current Flood Warnings and Advisories issued by the River Forecast Centre.

The map includes the spatial extent of areas, such as regions or specific watersheds, that are under advisory/warning, with links to text version of the warning/advisory with greater detail.

Levels of Warnings/Advisories: 1. High Streamflow Advisory: River levels are rising or expected to rise rapidly, but that no major flooding is expected. Minor flooding in low-lying areas is possible. 2. Flood Watch: River levels are rising and will approach or may exceed bankfull. Flooding of areas adjacent to affected rivers may occur. 3. Flood Warning: River levels have exceeded bankfull or will exceed bankfull imminently, and that flooding of areas adjacent to the rivers affected will result.

Additional Information

Purpose

This data was developed to provide spatial representation of Flood Warnings and Advisories issued by the River Forecast Centre, and is intended to accompany the text information contained in the warnings/advisories.

Data Quality

There can be uncertainty in weather forecasts, hydrologic modelling and interpretation of flood risk that can result in errors in when or if flood warnings are issued. High Streamflow and flooding may be possible or occur in areas nearby to ones that are under advisory/warning, or may occur in watersheds with no advisories in effect. See disclaimer.

Lineage Statement

Map data is intended to accompany the text information contained in the warnings/advisories found on the River Forecast Centre warnings web-page (see link attached)

Advisories and warnings are issued by the River Forecast Centre based on interpretation and evaluation of streamflow data, weather data, weather forecasts, hydrologic modelling and hydrologic analysis.
