This dataset identifies the geographic locations of marine ports, terminals, shipyards, and harbours on the west coast of British Columbia. The points were reviewed and cross referenced with government and industry data sources for geographic and attribute data accuracy.

Purpose

The purpose of this data is to provide positional and attribute information about west coast marine ports, terminals, shipyards, and harbours.

Data Quality

This dataset includes all ports and harbours listed by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans regarding Small Craft Harbour, the British Columbia Harbour Authority Association and the BC Ports Handbook.

Lineage Statement

Positional data was researched through BC Ports documentation and Federal Government websites. The position of the the facility was verified based on imagery and the Freshwater Atlas coastline. The positional and attribute data of the facilities were defined based on the following data sources: BC Ports Handbook, Department of Fisheries and Oceans websites for Small Craft Harbours and Harbour Authorities, and the BC Harbour Authority Association (BCHAA) website.
