High voltage electrical transmission lines for distributing power throughout the province. Lines were derived from several data sources representing unique inventories: BC Hydro, Private, Independent Power Producers, and Terrain Resource Information Management (TRIM).

Data and Resources

Dataset Extent

Latitude: 48.0° to 60.0°
Longitude: -139.5° to -113.5°

Additional Information

Purpose

To represent high voltage electrical transmission lines from various sources in one dataset for analytic, cartographic and emergency management purposes.

Data Quality

Digital datasets are provided annually by BC Hydro and Private companies. Independent Power Producer and Terrain Resource Information Management (TRIM) features were verified using satellite imagery. As more data sources are identified and obtained, additional transmission lines will be added to the dataset.

Object Description

Object Name: WHSE_BASEMAPPING.GBA_TRANSMISSION_LINES_SP

Short Name: TRNSMT_LNS
Comments: High voltage electrical transmission lines for distributing power throughout the province. Lines were derived from several data sources representing unique inventories: BC Hydro, Private, Independent Power Producers, and Terrain Resource Information Management (TRIM).

Column Name Short Name Data Type Data Precision Comments
TRANSMISSION_LINE_ID TRNSMSS_ID NUMBER 10 TRANSMISSION_LINE_ID is a system-generated unique identification number.
CIRCUIT_NAME CIRC_NAME VARCHAR2 30 CIRCUIT_NAME is an identifier of the transmission line, as derived from BC Hydro transmission lines, e.g., 1L246.
CIRCUIT_DESCRIPTION CIRC_DESC VARCHAR2 100 CIRCUIT_DESCRIPTION is the description of the transmission line, in the form of an abbreviated origin to an abbreviated destination, e.g., MON - Monashee -> WGS - Whatshan.
VOLTAGE VOLTAGE NUMBER 38 VOLTAGE is the voltage (electric potential difference) of the transmission line measured in kilovolts (kV), e.g., 130. Null values indicate that this information is not available.
OWNER OWNER VARCHAR2 30 OWNER is the legal owner and operator of the transmission line, i.e., BC Hydro, FortisBC, Unknown.
SOURCE_DATE SOURCE_DT DATE 7 SOURCE_DATE is the date on which the data was captured, whether through digitization or loading from a digital input data source.
FEATURE_LENGTH_M FEAT_LEN NUMBER 19 FEATURE_LENGTH_M is the system calculated length or perimeter of a geometry in meters.
SHAPE SHAPE SDO_GEOMETRY 1 SHAPE is the column used to reference the spatial coordinates defining the feature.
OBJECTID OBJECTID NUMBER 38 OBJECTID is a column required by spatial layers that interact with ESRI ArcSDE. It is populated with unique values automatically by SDE.
SE_ANNO_CAD_DATA BLOB 4000 SE_ANNO_CAD_DATA is a binary column used by spatial tools to store annotation, curve features and CAD data when using the SDO_GEOMETRY storage data type.
