The CLEVER model is a hydrologic model used by the River Forecast Centre to forecast hydrologic conditions at locations around British Columbia. This map provides mapped output from the CLEVER model 10-Day forecasts against assessed return period flows at Water Survey of Canada locations.

Data includes: Water Survey of Canada Gauge Name and Number; station location (latitude/longitude); current stream discharge reading; current flow's annual peak-flow return period; CLEVER model maximum flow forecast over next 5-day period and annual peak-flow return period estimate of forecast 5-day maximum flow; time of data update.

For detailed information on the CLEVER Model, see the Technical Reference Guide.

Additional Information

Purpose

This map was created to provide output from the River Forecast Centre's CLEVER model to assist with flood response operations.

Data Quality

Modelling is completed from both observed and forecast weather and hydrometric data. The data are preliminary, and may be changed upon subsequent review. Some data may be wrong. It is not uncommon for individual water level recorders to give false readings, due to local conditions. The return period estimates presented on this map are preliminary and are often based on limited data. They should be considered as reference values only, by which to evaluate the current readings. They should not be used for design or other purposes. Users of this data must accept all responsibility for the use and interpretation. See Disclaimer for more details.

Lineage Statement

Hydrometric data is published real-time data from the Water Survey of Canada. (Disclaimer for Hydrometric Information and Terms and conditions). Historic data sets from the Water Survey of Canada have been used to analyse return period flows at each location. The CLEVER model utilizes weather forecast information from Environment and Climate Change Canada, and weather observations from Environment and Climate Change Canada, and the Provincial Climate-Related Monitoring Program. Data used in the CLEVER model may be modified from its original values.
