Published by the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources - Tenure and Geoscience
Licensed under Access Only

These elogs provide information about the shallow and mostly unconsolidated materials overlying bedrock in the Peace River region of northeastern British Columbia. They can be used to interpret depth to bedrock, possible water bearing intervals, lithology and other aspects of the shallow subsurface.

Data and Resources

Dataset Extent

Latitude: 48.0° to 60.0°
Longitude: -139.5° to -113.5°

Additional Information

Purpose

These elogs will be of use to hydrogeologists working in the Peace River region.

Data Quality

The elogs are scanned from hardcopies of elogs recorded in the 1950s.

Lineage Statement

The elogs are scanned from hardcopies stored on the 6th floor of 1810 Blanshard St in Victoria. Thy comprise portions of exploration reports submitted to the government to fulfill the work requirements of exploration permits.

Object Description

Object Name: WHSE_MINERAL_TENURE.GEOL_ELOG_POINTS_SP

Short Name: ELOG_PT
Comments: Location of drill holes and electrical test logs

Column Name Short Name Data Type Data Precision Comments
GEOL_EP_SYSID GL_P_SYSD NUMBER 10 GEOL_EP_SYSID is a system-generated unique identification number.
ELOG_NUM ELOG_NUM NUMBER 10 ELOG_NUM is the electrical log identifier.
BCEMPR_REP BCEMPR_REP NUMBER 5 BCEMPR_REP is a unique 3 digit number for the Ministry of Energy and Mines representative, e.g., 267.
DRILL_HOLE_NAME DRLL_HL_NM VARCHAR2 255 DRILL_HOLE_NAME is the name of hole that is assigned by the drilling company, e.g., Rene Lake CH R6.
DRILL_DATE DRILL_DATE DATE 7 DRILL_DATE is the date the hole was drilled.
DRILLER_NAME DRILLER_NM VARCHAR2 255 DRILLER_NAME is the name of the company that drilled the hole, e.g., Pacific Petroleums Ltd.
ELEVATION_FT ELEV_FT NUMBER 38 ELEVATION_FT is the surface elevation in feet.
ELEVATION_M ELEV_M NUMBER 38 ELEVATION_M is the surface elevation in meters.
ELOG_INTERVAL ELOG_INTVL VARCHAR2 10 ELOG_INTERVAL is the interval (in feet) in the drill hole with elog coverage, e.g., 30 - 493.
BEDROCK_DEPTH BDRCK_DPTH VARCHAR2 25 BEDROCK_DEPTH is the depth interpreted by the author to be the contact between overlying unconsolidated materials and consolidated rock. Value may be a number (of feet), a comment or a question mark.
FRESHWATER_INTERVAL FWTR_INTVL VARCHAR2 255 FRESHWATER_INTERVAL is interpreted where a leftward deflection of the SP curve, which indicates permeability, is combined with a rightward deflection of resistivity curve indicating freshwater. Value may be a depth range, multiple ranges, or a comment, e.g., "50 - 80", "?" (unknown), "multiple thick intervals". The interval provided here is meant to draw attention to depths where freshwater zones might be present.
UTM_NORTHING UTM_NORTH NUMBER 7 UTM_NORTHING is the distance in meters northward from the equator.
UTM_EASTING UTM_EAST NUMBER 9 UTM_EASTING is the distance in meters eastward to or from the central meridian of a UTM zone with a false easting of 500000 meters.
UTM_ZONE UTM_ZONE NUMBER 2 UTM_ZONE is a segment of the Earth's surface 6 degrees of longitude in width. The zones are numbered eastward starting at the meridian 180 degrees from the prime meridian at Greenwich. There are five zones numbered 7 through 11 that cover British Columbia, e.g., Zone 10 with a central meridian at -123 degrees.
LATITUDE LATITUDE NUMBER 38 LATITUDE is the geographic coordinate, in decimal degrees (dd.dddddd), of the location of the feature as measured from the equator, e.g., 55.323653.
LONGITUDE LONGITUDE NUMBER 38 LONGITUDE is the geographic coordinate, in decimal degrees (ddd.dddddd), of the location of the feature as measured from the prime meridian, e.g., -123.093544
ELOG_IMAGE_URL ELOG_IMAGE VARCHAR2 255 ELOG_IMAGE_URL is the link to a scanned image of the electrical log.
SHAPE SHAPE SDO_GEOMETRY 1 SHAPE is the column used to reference the spatial coordinates defining the feature.
OBJECTID OBJECTID NUMBER 38 OBJECTID is a column required by spatial layers that interact with ESRI ArcSDE. It is populated with unique values automatically by SDE.
SE_ANNO_CAD_DATA ANNO_CAD BLOB 4000 SE_ANNO_CAD_DATA is a binary column used by spatial tools to store annotation, curve features and CAD data when using the SDO_GEOMETRY storage data type.
