The Extrapolating Logarithmic Flow (ELF) Model is an empirical mathematical model for estimating a 30-day stream flow forecast during the summer low flow season at Water Survey of Canada hydrometric gauge locations in British Columbia.

This map provides mapped flow forecast output from the ELF model against assessed mean annual discharge and mean annual gauge level at Water Survey of Canada locations.

Data includes: Water Survey of Canada Gauge Name and Number; station location (latitude/longitude); analysed station mean annual discharge; analysed station mean annual gauge height; minimum recorded gauge level; current discharge; percentage of current discharge to mean annual discharge; current gauge height; percentage of current gauge height to mean annual gauge level; ELF Model minimum, maximum and average forecasted flow over following 30-day period; ELF Model minimum, maximum and average forecasted flow as percentage of mean annual discharge over following 30-day period; ELF Model minimum, maximum and average forecasted gauge level over following 30-day period; ELF Model minimum, maximum and average forecasted gauge level as percentage of mean annual gauge level over following 30-day period; time of update of data.

Purpose

This map was created to provide output from the River Forecast Centre's ELF model to assist with drought monitoring and drought response.

Data Quality

Modelling is completed from observed hydrometric data. The data are preliminary, and may be changed upon subsequent review. Some data may be wrong. It is not uncommon for individual water level recorders to give false readings, due to local conditions. Hydrologic analysis, including mean annual discharge and level statistics, are preliminary and are often based on limited data. They should be considered as reference values only, by which to evaluate the current readings. Errors and uncertainty may be present in the empirical modelling used. Users of this data must accept all responsibility for the use and interpretation. See Disclaimer for more details.

Lineage Statement

Hydrometric data is published real-time data from the Water Survey of Canada. (Disclaimer for Hydrometric Information and Terms and conditions). Historic data sets from the Water Survey of Canada have been used to analyse return period flows at each location. Data used in the ELF model may be modified from its original values.
