Spatial layer intended to show the well protection area for a specific drinking water supply well to assist with managing and protecting the well from potential contamination.

Data Quality
Lineage Statement

The capture zones have been delineated by different hydrogeologists using different methodologies such as arbitrary fixed radius, calculated fixed radius, analytical equations and numerical modelling. Time of travel (TOT) zones have been delineated by different hydrogeologists and are not all the same. Some of the capture zones delineated by arbitrary fixed radius or analytical equation may not have a time of travel associated with the boundary delineated. For others, TOT zones have been categorized in this coverage using different colours, e.g., red for </=1 year, yellow for >1 to </= 5 years, green for >5 to </= 10 years and blue for >10 years. Capture zones with no associated time of travel are purple. These coloured polygons represent the TOT zones delineated by the hydrogeologist that falls within the TOT category; the TOT zone may or may not correspond to the category boundaries. Time of travel zones should be confirmed using the ?identity? tool.

Object Description

Comments: WELL CAPTURE ZONES SP contains Province-wide SDE spatial layer showing the capture zones (e.g., land area that contributes water to the well) for drinking water supply wells in BC, joined with attributes contained in GW_WELL_CAPTURE_ZONES_TBL. This layer is an instantiation of the spatial view GW_WELL_CAPTURE_ZONES_SVW.

Column Name Short Name Data Type Data Precision Comments
WELL_CAPTURE_ZONE_ID WLLCPTRZND NUMBER 10 WELL CAPTURE ZONE ID is a sequential business key maintained by the system starting at 1.
WELL_TAG_NO WLLTGN VARCHAR2 12 WELL TAG NO is the unique number of the groundwater well as assigned by the Province of British Columbia
TIME_OF_TRAVEL TMFTRVL VARCHAR2 15 TIME of TRAVEL (TOT) indicates the time it takes water to flow from a given point to the well. The capture zone is usually divided into one-year, five-year and ten-year TOT areas.
ZONE_METHOD ZNMTHD VARCHAR2 24 ZONE METHOD indicates how the well capture zone was created. For example, Arbitrary Fixed Radius (AFR) means that the capture zone is based solely on a fixed distance from the well (300 meters).
WELL_PROTECT_PLAN_REPORT_URL WLLPRTCTPL VARCHAR2 150 WELL PROTECT PLAN REPORT URL contains a hyperlink to the well protection plan which includes information on how the well protection areas or capture zones were generated.
CAPTURE_ZONE_ID CPTRZND VARCHAR2 16 CAPTURE ZONE ID is the unique number of the groundwater well capture zone as assigned by the Province of British Columbia
FEATURE_CODE FTRCD VARCHAR2 10 FEATURE_CODE contains a value based on the Canadian Council of Surveys and Mapping's (CCSM) system for classification of geographic features. E.g., AR82000110
GEOMETRY GEOMETRY SDO_GEOMETRY 1 GEOMETRY is the column used to reference the spatial coordinates defining the feature.
OBJECTID OBJECTID NUMBER 38 OBJECTID is a required attribute of feature classes and object classes in a geodatabase.
SE_ANNO_CAD_DATA BLOB 4000 SE_ANNO_CAD_DATA is a binary column used by spatial tools to store annotation, curve features and CAD data when using the SDO_GEOMETRY storage data type.
FEATURE_AREA_SQM NUMBER 19 FEATURE_AREA_SQM is the system calculated area of a two-dimensional polygon in square meters
FEATURE_LENGTH_M NUMBER 19 FEATURE_LENGTH_M is the system calculated length or perimeter of a geometry in meters
