This polygon shape file defines a grid covering BC (and beyond by 100km). A total of 39821 cells at 4096 hectares each have been mathematically derived based on the BC Albers center (54, -126).

Purpose

This is one of several hexagonal polygon grids that have been created covering BC. This particular grid is relatively coarse and would be best suited for generalized ecosystem or weather data.

Data Quality

Full coverage of BC is in this file. Each cell contains a unique 12 character (digit) identifier.

Lineage Statement

This and the other hexagonal grids have been created to support a variety of ecosystem mapping projects.
