This dataset contains spatial and tabular data on non-archaeological historic trails in B.C. Some of these trails, or sections of trail, are defined or protected under provincial legislation such as the Heritage Conservation Act. Other trails or trail segments are recorded but not legally protected. This dataset represents point feature data (e.g. cabins, landmarks).

Additional Information

Purpose

This dataset is intended for general interest. It provides basic information about some of the non-archaeological trails in B.C. that have a historic component, such as the Dewdney Trail in southern British Columbia. The data includes, where known: trail name, location, year of construction, name of builder, legal protection (if any), and historic significance.

Data Quality

This dataset contains a selection of the better-known historic trails in the province, but does not include all known historic trails. Archaeological trails are not included. Data will be updated periodically to include new information as it becomes available. Feature accuracy varies according to the quality of the source data. For detailed information about specific trails, please contact Heritage Branch and/or Recreation Sites and Trails Branch.

Lineage Statement

Source data includes various datasets managed by Heritage Branch and Recreation Sites and Trails Branch.
