Administrative boundaries are used by agencies at all levels of government for land use planning, treaty negotiations, emergency management and planning, running elections, conducting demographic analysis and municipal planning. Boundary locations are points along the boundary that provide geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) as well as UTM coordinates. They also identify the PoC (Point of Commencement), which can be used when reviewing metes and bounds descriptions.
Digital linework and points used to generate Regional Districts, Electoral Areas and Municipalities were reviewed by a professional surveyor.
Primary data sources for the Administrative Boundary Management System(ABMS) include Metes and Bounds legal descriptions from the Letters Patent, ICF (Integrated Cadastre Fabric), TRIM (Terrain Resource Information Mapping), and FWA (Freshwater Atlas). Other sources were used to clarify boundaries (e.g., Tantalis for crown land parcels, legal plans, etc.).

Object Name: WHSE_LEGAL_ADMIN_BOUNDARIES.ABMS_LGL_ADMIN_AREA_LOCS_SVW
Short Name: ABMS_LCTNS
Comments: ABMS_LGL_ADMIN_AREA_LOCS_SVW contains specific legally defined administrative boundary locations in the Province of British Columbia. This layer does not contain multipart features.
|Column Name||Short Name||Data Type||Data Precision||Comments|
|LGL_ADMIN_AREA_LOC_ID||LGL_DMN_ID||NUMBER||10||LGL_ADMIN_AREA_LOC_ID is an operationally-generated unique identification number.|
|ADMIN_AREA_LOCATION_TYPE||AA_LOC_TYP||VARCHAR2||20||ADMIN_AREA_LOCATION_TYPE is a low-level grouping of Administration Area locations used to categorise features when reporting and labeling, e.g., PoC (Point of Commencement), GEO (Geographic Coordinate).|
|ADMIN_AREA_LOCATION_LABEL||AA_LOC_LAB||VARCHAR2||50||ADMIN_AREA_LOCATION_LABEL is the text used on a label for an Administration Area location, e.g., Point of Commencement starts here.|
|ADMIN_AREA_NAME||AA_NAME||VARCHAR2||200||ADMIN_AREA_NAME is the authoritative, officially approved name given to the Administrative Area, e.g., Regional District of Alberni Clayquot.|
|ADMIN_AREA_ABBREVIATION||AA_ABBRVN||VARCHAR2||50||ADMIN_AREA_ABBREVIATION is a short form or commonly-known acronym for the Administrative Area name, e.g., Tofino (Corporation of the Village of Tofino), RDAC (Regional District of Alberni Clayquot).|
|ADMIN_AREA_GROUP_NAME||AA_GRP_NM||VARCHAR2||200||ADMIN_AREA_GROUP_NAME is the name given to the larger administrative area (if there is any) of which this feature is a member, e.g., Regional District of Alberni Clayquot (This would be the ADMIN_AREA_GROUP_NAME of the feature called "The Corporation of the Village of Tofino").|
|LATITUDE||LATITUDE||NUMBER||8||LATITUDE is the geographic coordinate, in decimal degrees (dd.dddddd), of the location of the feature as measured from the equator, e.g., 55.323653.|
|LONGITUDE||LONGITUDE||NUMBER||9||LONGITUDE is the geographic coordinate, in decimal degrees (dd.dddddd), of the location of the feature as measured from the prime meridian, e.g., -123.093544.|
|UTM_ZONE||UTM_ZONE||NUMBER||2||UTM_ZONE is a segment of the Earth's surface 6 degrees of longitude in width. The zones are numbered eastward starting at the meridian 180 degrees from the prime meridian at Greenwich. There are five zones numbered 7 through 11 that cover British Columbia, e.g., Zone 10 with a central meridian at -123 degrees.|
|UTM_EASTING||UTM_EAST||NUMBER||9||UTM_EASTING is the distance in meters eastward to or from the central meridian of a UTM zone with a false easting of 500000 meters.|
|UTM_NORTHING||UTM_NORTH||NUMBER||7||UTM_NORTHING is the distance in meters northward from the equator.|
|CHANGE_REQUESTED_ORG||CHNG_RQSTG||VARCHAR2||30||CHANGE_REQUESTED_ORG is the government acronym of the Ministry or sub-org that last requested the change that resulted in the modification of the record, e.g., GeoBC, MCSCD.|
|UPDATE_TYPE||UPDT_TYPE||VARCHAR2||50||UPDATE_TYPE is a short description of the latest alteration of the feature's geographic or attribute content, e.g., Inserted (added new), Change in geometry.|
|WHEN_UPDATED||WHEN_UPDTD||DATE||7||WHEN_UPDATED is the date and time the record was last modified.|
|ACCURACY_CODE||ACCRCY_CD||VARCHAR2||10||ACCURACY_CODE is a coded-value indicator of the quality of the map point placement, e.g., 10 (Better or equal to 10 metres), 100 (Better or equal to 100 metres), Unknown (Accuracy unknown).|
|MAP_POINT_NOTES||MP_PNT_NTS||VARCHAR2||512||MAP_POINT_NOTES are textual information or special instructions pertaining to the Map Point e.g., Point shifted to HWM of river.|
|SHAPE||SHAPE||SDO_GEOMETRY||64||SHAPE is the column used to reference the spatial coordinates defining the feature.|
|OBJECTID||OBJECTID||NUMBER||38||OBJECTID is a column required by spatial layers that interact with ESRI ArcSDE. It is populated with unique values automatically by SDE.|
|SE_ANNO_CAD_DATA||ANNO_CAD||BLOB||4000||SE_ANNO_CAD_DATA is a binary column used by spatial tools to store annotation, curve features and CAD data when using the SDO_GEOMETRY storage data type.|
