OBSOLETE: This dataset is no longer being maintained. This layer contains Natural Resource Major Projects that are tracked through the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations - Major Projects Office. Projects listed in this layer are in the coordinated authorization permitting process led by the BC Government’s Natural Resource Sector ministries.

A natural resource sector major project generally involves significant and substantial capital investment; multiple and complex authorizations/permits; and involves significant environmental or social values. Natural Resource Major Projects include major mines, clean energy projects, pipelines, LNG facilities, major resorts, and hydro transmission lines.

This is a point layer. Please note that Natural Resource Major Projects that that are represented by linear features (for example pipeline routes) are not included in this layer.

Object Description

Comments: NRS MAJOR PROJECT POINT list all NRS (Natural Resource Sector) major projects. Projects range in scope, scale and complexity and can be generalized in three classifications in order of magnitude: projects, major projects and mega projects. An NRS major project generally involves substantial capital investment, multiple and complex NRS authorizations and/or involve significant environmental or social values. Major Projects BC differentiates broadly two categories of NRS major projects: those that do not require a BC environmental assessment certificate and those that do. Major Projects BC is the lead for a wide range of major project types, for example: Mines, Clean Energy, Pipelines, Resorts, Utilities (new hydro transmission lines). This is a point layer.
