NGO Conservation Areas - Fee Simple

The NGO Conservation Areas - Fee Simple dataset contains spatial and attribute information for non-governmental organization (NGO) conservation areas in BC. Fee simple NGO conservation areas are private conservation lands owned by non-government organizations and managed for wildlife habitat conservation values. Overlap between this dataset and the provincial Conservation Lands and BC Parks, Ecological Reserves and Protected Areas layers will occur where NGO lands have been leased to the province. Discrepancies between the provincial layers and this dataset are due to differing source cadastral information. Spatial boundaries were sourced primarily from Integrated Cadastral Information Society (ICI Society) data. This spatial layer contains multipart polygons.

A Conservation Cross Reference Table provides a link between this dataset and the provincial Conservation Lands. The CIP_PCL field in this dataset links to the Conservation_Land_ID field in the provincial Conservation Lands dataset.

Additional Information

Purpose

To provide a comprehensive inventory of the non-governmental organization (NGO) conservation areas (or private conservation lands) in British Columbia using boundaries derived from local government cadastral mapping and attributes from securement organizations and title certificates. The inventory includes Fee Simple, Registerable Interest, and Unregisterable Interest types of securements.

Data Quality

The attributes of each legal parcel were verified by the relevant conservation partner and/or information on title. Every attempt has been made to verify that all of the information is current to December 31, 2015, however, out of date information may still occur.

The majority of legal parcel boundaries were obtained from local government cadastre of the cadastral layers available from the Integrated Cadastral Information Society (ICI Society). These boundaries vary in horizontal accuracy from 50m. Other legal parcel boundary sources used minimally in the database include survey plans and the provincial government's Tantalis - Surveyed Parcels layer.

Lineage Statement

Integrated Cadastral Fabric Layer; Local Government Layer; Cadastre Layer, 2016 from the Integrated Cadastral Information Society (ICI Society).

Tantalis Surveyed Parcels, 2016 from the Province of British Columbia

Column Name Short Name Data Type Data Precision Comments
CONSERVATION_AREAS_NGO_ID CNSRVTN_AR NUMBER 10 CONSERVATION_AREA_NGO_ID is a system-generated unique identification number, e.g., 1, 2, 3.
CID_PCL CID_PCL VARCHAR2 10 CID_PCL is a unique conservation identifier for each parcel in the dataset. The format is the following: ##-###-###, where the first two numbers identify the Conservation ID Region (WLAP_REGIONAL_BND_AREA_ID in the static 2002 BC Parks Region Boundary layer WHSE_ADMIN_BOUNDARIES.EADM_WLAP_REGION_BND_AREA_SVW), the next three numbers are created in sequential order when new projects are added to the database, and the last three numbers represent the parcel number (incremented when there are multiple parcels for a single conservation project), e.g., 04-086-004.
PROJECT_NAME PROJ_NAME VARCHAR2 250 PROJECT_NAME is the name of the project unique to the BC NGO Conservation Database, e.g., Wells Sanctuary.
DATA_SOURCE DATA_SRCE VARCHAR2 200 DATA_SOURCE identifies the source of the spatial data, i.e., Tantalis Surveyed Parcels, Image, Survey Plan, Local Government, Islands Trust, ICI Society (Integrated Cadastral Fabric layer), ICI Society (Local Government Layer), ICI Society (Cadastre Layer).
SOURCE_DATE DATE_SRCE DATE 7 SOURCE_DATE is the date the parcel was updated in the source cadastral layer from which it was imported. If the source data did not have parcel-specific dates available, such as parcels from the provincial dataset Tantalis - Surveyed Parcels or parcels from some Local Governments, the source date is the date it was downloaded/received. Where the date of download/receipt was not available, the "date received" value from the associated title certificate was used.
ACCURACY ACCURACY VARCHAR2 50 ACCURACY is the accuracy of parcel boundaries based on the data source. Where provided, accuracy from the source cadastral data is used for individual parcels. When unavailable, accuracy is assigned based on the data source. While some discretion during data entry is used to assess accuracy for individual parcels, general accuracy guidelines by data source are as follows: ICI Society data = 10m+, Local Government = 10m+, Islands Trust = 10m+, Tantalis Surveyed Parcels = 20m+, Image = dependant on resolution. Accuracy values included in dataset: <1m, 1-5m, 1-10m, 5-10m, 10m+, 20m+.
LEAD_SECUREMENT_ORG LEAD_ORG VARCHAR2 254 LEAD_SECUREMENT_ORG is the lead NGO securement organization, e.g., Ducks Unlimited Canada.
GENERAL_SECUREMENT_TYPE ORG_TYPE VARCHAR2 254 GENERAL_SECUREMENT_TYPE is the general type of lead securement. In this dataset, the value is always Fee Simple.
SPECIFIC_SECUREMENT_TYPE SPEC_TYPE VARCHAR2 254 SPECIFIC_SECUREMENT_TYPE is the specific type of lead securement. In this dataset, the value is either Fee Simple or In Trust.
SECUREMENT_DATE SCRMNT_DT DATE 7 SECUREMENT_DATE is the date of securement.
PUBLIC_ACCESS_INSTRUCTION PUB_ACCESS VARCHAR2 200 PUBLIC_ACCESS_INSTRUCTIONS are the instructions that should be followed regarding public access to the property, e.g., Please contact The Nature Trust of BC for inquiries about public access to this conservation area.
AREA_HECTARES AREA_HEC NUMBER 8 AREA_HECTARES is the area of the property in hectares, e.g., 10.93.
FEATURE_AREA_SQM FT_AR_SQM NUMBER 19 FEATURE_AREA_SQM is the system calculated area of a two-dimensional polygon in square meters.
FEATURE_LENGTH_M FT_LNGTH_M NUMBER 19 FEATURE_LENGTH_M is the system calculated length or perimeter of a geometry in meters.
SHAPE SHAPE SDO_GEOMETRY 1 SHAPE is the column used to reference the spatial coordinates defining the feature.
OBJECTID OBJECTID NUMBER 38 OBJECTID is a required attribute of feature classes and object classes in a geodatabase.
SE_ANNO_CAD_DATA SE_ANNO_CA BLOB 4000 SE ANNO CAD DATA is a binary column used by spsatial tools to store annotation, curve features and CAD data when using the SDO_GEOMETRY storage data type.
