Salmon Suitability Rating polygons are areas in the British Columbia coastal waters where a "rating" has been assigned for how suitable or appropriate the area is for salmon aquaculture.
The British Columbia Coastal Resource Information System (CRIMS) is an internet based interactive map for viewing coastal and marine data. A wide variety of coast and marine resources are included, such as aquaculture, shoreline classification, selected fisheries information, and offshore oil and gas information. The development of the Coastal Resource Information System is ongoing. The application provides access to data currently held in the BC Geographic Warehouse. As additional layers are added to the BCGW, subsequent releases of the application will include these additional layers and further enhancements. Some of the layers in the CRIMS database have not been updated for several years so caution should be exercised and users need to take note of the currency of the data.
Resource information was collected using a peer-reviewed provincial Resource Information Standards Committee consisting of DFO Fishery Officers, First Nations, and other subject matter experts starting in 1979. The Data has been intermittently updated throughout the years, however, there are currently no plans to update this legacy data.
