Tantalis is a computerized land information system designed to fulfill desktop access to an integrated database containing all records-both spatial and textual-needed for the business of provincial land administration. The business needs to be supported by Tantalis are diverse and are summarized as follows. - Track applications for the use of Crown land from the point of initial enquiry through to the issuing of legal documents and registration of interest. Tools were needed to support the extensive consultation and evaluation activities that take place during the application process prior to the issuing of any legal documents; - Maintain a registry of interests in Crown land consisting of legal documents associated with all land transactions as well as all historical survey information; - Maintain a spatially continuous fabric of all land parcels, administrative boundaries and reserves over Crown land; - Support the ongoing administration of Crown land tenures.
