Additional Information

Purpose

Ground Sampling provides the information necessary to determine how much of a given characteristic is within the inventory area. The ground measurements are used to estimate the proper total for the population.

Data Quality
Lineage Statement

Originally the VRI Ground Samples were collected on field forms and then key punched into the computer in Standard Edit Format (ASCII flat file). Currently the data is collected from the field using Handheld computer, validated using TIMVEG Sample Plot Tool and loaded to the Vegetation Ground Information System (VGIS) Oracle database.
