The FMLB (Forest Management Land Base) represents the forested area within the province from the perspective of forest management. It represents, at a very coarse level, those treed areas that would be considered a “forest” from the forest management perspective. It also includes areas temporarily not-treed. The FMLB is intended to support high-level (strategic-level) resource management planning and forest estate modelling, such as the timber supply review (TSR) analysis. The spatial data SHOULD NOT be used for operational level analysis. The FMLB is primarily derived from the provincial vegetation inventory (https://catalogue.data.gov.bc.ca/group/vegetation-resource-inventory) Rank 1 attribute *for_mgmt_land_base_ind*, which indicates areas considered part of the forest management land base. However, the Ministry of Forests Forest Analysis and Inventory Branch (FAIB) refined this definition through review with satellite imagery, consultation with inventory specialists and guidance from the Biodiversity Guidebook to better align with the practical interpretation of forest cover, particularly in the context of assessing old growth and biodiversity. The FMLB provides a standardized spatial representation of forested lands, from the perspective of forest management, and serves as a foundation for further analysis and decision-making related to such things as land use planning and forest management.

This dataset includes White Sturgeon (Acipenser transmontanus) mark-recapture data collected in the Fraser River drainage. Users can use a Passive Integrated Responder (PIT) tag serial number to look up if the fish has been recaptured before and any associated data at last capture (e.g. fish length, girth, location, etc.). This dataset is maintained by the Reconciliation, Lands, Policy and Data Division within the Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship (WLRS). The Cumulative Effects Framework (CEF) Watershed Condition Assessment provides a coarse-level, GIS-based approach for evaluating watershed condition. Assessment results represent the modelled condition of watersheds derived from spatial analysis, rather than field-based measurements. The results are intended to support strategic and tactical decision-making within the Cariboo and Thompson-Okanagan Natural Resource Regions and may also provide contextual information to inform operational decision-making. The assessment is organized around four thematic areas that guide the evaluation process: 1. Streamflow Hazard - the likelihood of the occurrence of peak flow events 2. Sediment Hazard - the likelihood that fine sediments will be generated and delivered to streams 3. Riparian Function Hazard - the likelihood that there has been loss of or alteration to riparian vegetation causing reduced function of the riparian area 4. Ecological Importance (available for Cariboo Region only) - the importance of an assessment unit for fish and fish habitat. The mapping can be used to reveal areas most conducive to wetland formation and is classified into four simplified categories: *Water*, *Wetland*, *Upland/Anthropogenic*, and *Potential Wetland*. The dataset area encompasses the Lower Mainland region of British Columbia, specifically focusing on the area extending from the City of Vancouver eastward to the District of Hope. The dataset was generated using a comprehensive suite of high resolution terrain, hydrological, remote sensing, and land cover datasets (many derived from LiDAR and Sentinel 1/2 imagery) to characterize environmental conditions associated with wetland formation. Key input layers include topographic indices (Multi-scale Topographic Position Index - mTPI, Topographic Wetness Index – TWI, Normalized Digital Surface Model – nDSM), hydrologically enforced terrain models, depression and distance to water analyses, canopy height models, long term change detection, surface water dynamics, soil drainage classes, and 2021 flood extents. Modelling challenges included hydrologic enforcement in managed landscapes and modelling flow in low relief terrain.

The British Columbia Socioeconomic, Community, and Health Index (the Index) was developed to measure socioeconomic wellbeing across geographic areas in British Columbia. The Index is one comprehensive measure that summarizes B.C.’s various data sources in an easy to access way, identifying the variation in wellbeing determinants across B.C. communities. This approach distills large amounts of data into a set of concise indicators to support evidence-based decision-making regarding investment, resource allocation, and policy intervention in the province. Additionally, the Index can support the evaluation of policy outcomes by tracking changes in socioeconomic conditions over time. Two models were developed: The Longitudinal (L) Model: using fewer explanatory variables and fixed factor loadings to enable a trend comparison over time for each jurisdiction. The Detailed (D) Model: using all data available but only generated for more recent year(s). The Index is reported at both the Census Subdivision and Community Health Service Areas level. To capture the multidimensional nature of socioeconomic status, standardized indicators were grouped into four thematic domains: - Economic Domain indicators related to income, employment, and housing quality - Education Domain covers metrics such as high school course mark, high school completion rate, and educational attainment - Health Domain encompasses indicators like prevalence of chronic conditions - Community Domain reflects social cohesion and equity, including crime rates, ratio of single parents, and proportion of the population that is receiving income assistance.

Williamson's Sapsucker (WISA)

Williamson’s Sapsucker (WISA) data; includes the three distinct Areas of Occupancy (AOs), WISA Habitat Model, WISA Observations and Nest Trees. These data support the implementation of the Williamson's Sapsucker Best Management Practices (BMPs). 1. Area of Occupancy: 95% of the WISA population is estimated to occur in this area and is where the WISA Best Management Practices (BMPs) apply. 2. BMP Habitat Classes: Polygons delineating class 1 habitat (highest quality), class 2 habitat, and areas where no habitat has been found. The BMPs have specific harvest practices outlined for class 1 and 2 habitat. 1. Class 1 and Class 2 habitat in the West and Okanagan-Boundary AOs is based on the habitat model for WISA. To facilitate spatial analysis, all subtypes of Class 1 habitat areas were subsumed to a single data class titled Class 1 within column BMP in the attribute table of the habitat model. More details on the BMP Habitat Classes can be found in the BMP document and the guiding principles document that accompanies the BMPs. 2. Class 1 and Class 2 habitat in the East Kootenay AO is based on a combination of the habitat model for WISA and buffers around existing and probably nest sites and more details on the BMP Habitat Classes can be found in the BMPs and the guiding principles document that accompanies the BMPs. 3. WISA Observations and Nests: 1. WISA Observations from 1994-present: includes observed nest trees (nesting confirmed), potential nest trees (nesting probable), and individual observations. 2. WISA Inoculated Trees: These are also potential nest trees and are this dataset includes locations of trees inoculated with fungus to create WISA nesting habitat. Nesting habitat takes decades to develop, and retention of these trees is essential for long term habitat supply. Inoculated trees may be labelled through signage.

Source Area is a broad term used to describe any area that could potentially contribute water to the drinking water system; it does not mean that hydrologic analyses have been completed to determine likelihood of connectivity. These source areas most often represent the entire aquifer extent (for ground water systems) or the watershed upstream from the intake (for surface water systems). This is one of three Drinking Water Sources datasets (along with the DWS - Intakes/Wellheads points dataset, and DWS - Protection Zones polygons dataset). A drinking water system is any domestic system servicing anything other than a single-family dwelling, as defined in the Drinking Water Protection Act. Zone of protection is a broad term that represents a wide variety of areas as they have been delineated in their corresponding report. The methods and processes used to delineate these zones vary based on several factors including, but not limited to, population, vulnerability, hydrologic/hydrogeologic parameters, etc. For the use of this dataset, the term Protection Zone means that protection measures should be considered and/or implemented in these areas due to the importance of these areas supplying drinking water to their water system users. Protection Zone does not mean that protection measures have been implemented in these areas, nor that protection measures are not required beyond the boundary of these areas. This is one of three Drinking Water Sources datasets (along with the DWS - Intakes/Wellheads points dataset, and DWS - Source Areas polygons dataset).
